Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the Life: He that believeth in me, though He were dead, yet shall He live. ? John 11:25
Jesus said these words at the tomb of Lazarus. Lazarus was dead and His body was in the tomb for four days. There was no hope; there was only grief and tears prevalent. It was in this situation Jesus stood before the tomb and boldly proclaimed ?I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE?.
Death is a horrible enemy of mankind. I personally have experienced the pain and the agony of loosing a loved one. I was born in a Christian family. My father was a Doctor &my mother a teacher. They brought me up and my sister in good Christian ways. After completing my graduation in engineering I was looking for a job, my sister was studying to become an engineer. It was during this time in 1996 my father took ill. The doctors broke the most unexpected and horrifying news that he had cancer. For ten full months we ran from pillar to post looking for the best treatment available. But, alas! Even after the best treatments and attention given to him he passed away in 1997.
We were totally shattered. I thoroughly understand the turmoil and agony one goes through when somebody dear to your heart dies. But before we finished crying, one year later my mother became sick she was diagnosed to have cancer in her breast. Again we spared no good treatment. But after seven months of intense treatment and attention she too passed away.
Within a span of two years I and my sister had become orphans. Death is terrible, just look around and see how many children have become orphans without hope for a future; how many have become widows with no hope and protection. Many families have lost their loved ones; the joy, happiness and peace they enjoyed as a family because of DEATH.
Yes! Death is a terrible enemy as I had mentioned earlier. The dead do not come back to us. Interestingly, in the Bible we read several accounts of deaths and resurrections as well.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being - Genesis 2:7
The bible, the infallible word of God says that God created the heavens and the earth and all that is alive. Some believe contrary to this and such a belief is a fallacy and a heresy against God. After creating the heavens and the earth God decided to create man in His own image to have dominion over the earth. Therefore, He created a man?s body from the dust of the earth.
In simpler words, God made a doll out of the mud at His feet. He breathed into the doll?s nostrils His breath of life and this mud doll became a man named Adam. This is really amazing since there was no flesh, bones, nerves or blood that is life! The mud doll became a man with flesh, bones and blood running through his veins; full of life. This can be equated to raising up the dead. In fact, this is more than resurrection because there was no dead body, it was just mud!
And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm. He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. ? 2kings , 35
Elisha, the prophet is in the house of a rich woman whose son was dead. Elisha kneels down beside the bed and prays. Suddenly he gets up and lies on the boy?s body in such a way that his mouth was on his mouth. Elisha?s breath entered the boy and he came alive.
This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to breathe into you and make you live again! ? Ezekiel 37:5
This is another awesome passage found in the scriptures. The Lord takes His prophet Ezekiel to a valley filled with dry bones. The Lord asks the prophet, "Son of man, can these bones become living people again?" The prophet seems a wise man. He tells the Lord, "You alone know the answer to that." The Lord commands Ezekiel to prophesy to those bones. Lo and behold! As he prophesied every bone arose and joined with its own, nerves and flesh appeared, skin appeared over the flesh covering it.
So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army. - Ezekiel 37:10
Finally these dry bones became living people again and stood up as a great army! He breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit?. John 20:22
After His resurrection Jesus Christ appeared to His disciples who had locked themselves inside the room because of fear. The Holy Spirit was not given to reside in the hearts of men. So, Jesus Christ breathed on them and said, ?Receive the Holy Spirit?. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:2-4. The Holy Spirit is the breath of God. He is the Spirit of resurrection.
I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of his power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:19, 20.
Jesus Christ the son God was made to be sin for us though He never sinned. (2Corinthians5:21) He was separated from God eternally without hope. The chains of sin and death were able to hold the son of God captive in the abyss because of the sin that was imputed upon Him. But on the third day the mighty Holy Spirit descended into hell and shattered the chains of death that held the son of God captive. He resurrected Jesus! My friend the Holy Spirit is the answer to all the impossibilities in your life.
Through Jesus we have complete victory not just over death and hell but over every circumstance in life. Look to Him and He will give you strength and power to rise up from your ashes. He will rebuild you and you will be a shinning star for His Glory!
