The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.  ? James 5:16

When I was a little boy I had been to one of the very small villages in India for vacation.  I had never seen a village until then.

I was born and brought up in a city. The scenic beauty and the sounds of nature captivated me totally. My elderly aunty lived in this village with her family. She was a mid-wife and was sought by all the women in and around that village for help during pregnancy and delivery time.

During my stay one night all of us were rudely awaken by the screams of a young woman. It was 1:30a.m., very early in the morning. A few villagers had brought a young woman suffering in labor pain by bullock cart. The lady was carried into a room and my aunty went inside and locked the door. The lady was screaming all the more from inside and being a little boy I was afraid not knowing what was happening but after a few minutes the screaming stopped, the door opened and my aunt stepped out of the room holding a new born baby in her hands. There was a bucket of water and she started cleaning the new born baby. I noticed something strange dangling down from the baby?s tummy, pointing to it I asked her what it was but I never got an answer.

Now, I know that it was the umbilical cord that was connecting the baby with its mother when it was in the womb. Prayer is the umbilical cord that connects man with God. Yes! Prayer is the only connector between heaven and earth; God and man. Prayer is the umbilical cord through which man draws on the unlimited power of God. Prayer is powerful and effective. Prayer brings God in your stride. Prayer is a privilege that God has given man. Prayer brings in the fullest potential of God into human life.

Prayer ushers in the miracle working power of God in our daily lives. Praying people birth the move of God in this world we live in. The praying army is behind the advent of the blessed seasons of God in one?s life. Therefore, it is absolutely imperative for us to know the secrets of praying effectively.

O You who hear prayer. Psalm 65: 2.

Call on me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you? Psalm 50: 15

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11: 28

But before we proceed any further, let us be assured that God?s character; His nature is to answer those who call Him regardless of who they are as is evident from the above verses. However, we should know the following truths to pray effectively and receive answers to our prayers.

The Approach to God

We have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus. Hebrews 10: 19

God is holy; holy beyond comprehension of the human mind. Therefore man in his fallen, sinful state cannot approach God. Sin stands between man and God as a wall preventing us from reaching Him. The sinless blood of our Lord Jesus Christ which He shed on the cross of Calvary has the power to cleanse us from all sin.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement. Leviticus 17: 11

The blood of bulls and goats covered the sins while the conscience was still corrupt, they did not have the power to cleanse the inner heart. The blood of bulls and goats was a temporary arrangement made by God for man to approach Him. However, the blood of Jesus Christ does not merely cover the sins but cleanses the inner man totally from sin and makes us a new creation. We are made righteous by the blood of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we have the boldness to approach the holy God Yahweh, our father and have our petitions answered once we are washed by the blood of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ask according to His Will

If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5: 14

In the city of Chennai there was a highly ranked government official, he was a very good friend of a leading evangelist residing in the city and whom God mightily used. The government official had a beautiful little daughter. One day she was playing with her little chick on the balcony in the fourth floor of her house. The little chick fell off the wall suddenly and since its wings had not developed it could not fly; it fell to the ground and died pathetically. The little girl was heart broken. No one could comfort her or stop her from crying. Finally, in the evening her daddy came home and the moment she saw him she ran to him, hugged him and sobbed and wept her heart out. The daddy finally said that they were to attend the gospel meeting in which his evangelist friend would be talking that evening. He promised to get his little girl a new chick the next day.

They went as a family to the meeting. They heard the word of God being preached and the time for prayer approached in the end.

The evangelist said, ?Ask and you will receive. John 16: 24.? He further said, ?ask God whatever you desire and He will give it to you.? The little girl did something very strange; she had brought the dead chick in a bag to the meeting without anybody?s knowledge; when the evangelist encouraged the people to ask God what they desired, she put her little hands into her bag and cried out saying, ?Jesus he says whatever we ask you will give it, therefore give my chick back.? To everyone?s amazement the chick came back to life; leaped inside the bag and created a great commotion.

You can corner God using His promises. It is indeed a weird expression but I like to say it that way. God has to answer your prayers. Your prayer may be insignificant to others; your tears may be a reason for others to mock at you but let not your heart be troubled God will not disdain you or reject your prayers. Every prayer that is prayed in accordance with God?s will; will certainly receive an answer.

?It is the strength and not the length of your prayer that brings an answer to your prayers; and the strength of prayer lies in your faith in the promise which you pleaded before the Lord.?      -     Charles H. Spurgeon.

Look up the bible to know what God has said about the situation you are going through and use those promises when you pray.

At the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth.  Philippians 2: 10

The following is a true incident that happened in one of the hamlets in North India.

There were two elderly ladies approximately 90 years old in a particular hamlet in north India. They both had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal saviour through one of the missionaries who had come to their hamlet. The witchdoctor who held the village in his sway under the guise of a god man came to know of their salvation. The next day when these ladies were returning back to the village from the river with their water pots on their heads, the witchdoctor obstructed them and took them into his hut. He asked them to renounce their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. There was a huge rusted spring in his hut, he pressed it and released it, and the spring hit the roof and came back. He looked at the helpless old ladies and threatened to make them jump up and down repeatedly using his evil powers as he did with the old rusted spring, if they did not oblige him.

Those old ladies were overcome with fear and were trembling. They held each other?s hands; closed their eyes and started singing a song in Hindi, the missionary had taught them; the song is:

He is Lord; He is Lord

He has risen from the dead and He is Lord

Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess

That Jesus Christ is the Lord.

Their singing began as a mere whisper, but they soon forgot themselves and started signing boldly with all their strength and the whole place echoed their voices. They came back to their senses hearing the voice of the witchdoctor screaming on top of his lungs, ?help me; help me?. When they opened they eyes they saw the witchdoctor jumping up and down like the old rusted spring by the supernatural power of God.

The name of Jesus is ours to use. The name of Jesus is a representation of Jesus himself. The power of Jesus is made available to you when you use the name of Jesus.

No power of hell can stop you from receiving answers to your prayers. Every problem has to bow its knee and give way for God?s glory to be manifest in your life when you pray in the name of Jesus.

The Lord himself has said,

?You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.?

                                                                           John 14: 14.

Therefore be bold to use the name of Jesus in our prayers and surely every prayer of your will be answered.

The threshing floors shall be full of wheat and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil. Joel 2: 24

God moves in seasons! Every time God's people rebelled and turned their backs on God His presence moved away and their enemies overpowered them destro....
